What is Diphtheria? mode of transmission, symptoms, prevention.

WHAT IS DIPHTHERIA?

Diphtheria is a dreadful and can be fatal. generally, the children of 2-5 years of age fall prey to this disease. the germs of this disease are like "C" which are called corynebacterium.

MODE OF TRANSMISSION

When the patients of this disease speak, sneeze or cough, its germs are sprayed in the air and enter into the body of healthy individuals. sometimes polluted toys, books and clothes, etc many spread this disease.

INCUBATION PERIOD

Its incubation period is from 2-3 days.

SYMPTOMS

1. After the duration of 2-6 days, its general symptoms start appearing.

2. First of all, the germs of diphtheria attack on nose throat, larynx, trachea and bronchi.

3. Consequently the throat swells up.

4. The patient faces hardships in respiratory process.

5. Vocal organs do not work properly.

6. The patient feels pain when he drinks water.

7. Liquid materials start coming out from the nose.

8. Organs of the body are paralysed.

9. Muscles of the heart become inactive and finally the patient dies.

1. The patient should be kept away from the children.

2. If the heart rate is fast, the patient should be taken to hospital immediately.

3. The patient should be given liquids such as milk and tea etc.

4. In case of high fever, he/she should be given aspirin.

5. In such condition, water packs or ice bags should be placed on the forehead of the patient.

6. The things, used by the patient should be disinfected.

7. The inoculation of DPT against this disease should be done for prevention.

8. The patient should remain in bed until he/she is fit.
